Prepare for Impact!

We had an exciting morning today with small group Hosts stopping by to get their assignments and materials. Today is the last day to sign up to participate in an Impact Group as well as to complete Host Orientation. So there was a lot of activity in the lobby around the Impact table! Our Small Group Team with Tye Male, Dave Sanders, Susan Krucher, Pat Rieck, James Wartian, and Erin Bird have done a great job in preparing and equipping our church for our Impact Series. We have over 60 small groups participating. And I see that even Bernice plans to participate in a small group. A special thanks to Tye for his leadership with the team and for organizing a multitude of details.

It's been an exciting day. It's exciting to think about how God will use these groups in the lives of people. Let's prepare for Impact!

It's A Cyclone State

You know, that Bernice is OK. I like her wardrobe selection. I think she looks great in Crimson and Gold. All that she is lacking is her Red Hat!

Bernice is New Covenant's number one Cyclone fan. She knows a winner when she sees one! This being rivalry week with the other state university in Iowa City, Bernice is getting an early start on preparing for the big game.

Go Bernice! Go Clones! It's a Cyclone State!

Red Hatters

Wow, I couldn't believe my eyes! The Red Hatters had a Fashion Show this morning. I think it was more "show" than fashion. But don't take my word for it, go ahead and click here to see for yourself.

I can't believe that they allow this kind of thing to go on in the church. Bernice must be behind all of this. I was really glad that Bernice let Joyce do most of the talking. Joyce was awesome, as usual!

The hi-lite of the day? 30 women made commitments or recommitments to Christ! Hey, with results like that, maybe we could get Bernice to come to the Men's Steak Out this summer!

Welcome Lunch

Even Bernice is welcome at New Covenant!

We had a great Welcome Lunch today with over 80 people in attendance. We had over 15 new individuals or families with us today. You can see a slideshow of our Lunch by clicking on the above picture.

Pastor Bob likes to describe New Covenant as a church of grace. I would have to agree. What other church would welcome Bernice with open arms the way we do! I am warming up to Bernice. I know that we are a casual, "come as you are" church, but I do think she could give a little more attention to what she wears. I think the red hat clashes with the straw and scarecrow look! Regardless, we are glad that Bernice is with us and we love her just the same.

Three Days and Counting!

Just a reminder that Breakfast with Kim is just three days away. I'm meeting with anyone who shows up at Panera this Saturday morning at 9:00. You can read about my conflict with Bernice here. Breakfast with Kim

Bernice is at it again. I really struggle with her. This morning she was recruiting for Breakfast with Liz on Saturday, September 10. I tried to sign up and was told it's just for "Red Hatters" and that I couldn't attend. What is that all about? It sounds like discrimination to me! I really think she doesn't like me because I'm an Iowa State Cyclone fan!

If I can't have breakfast with Liz, I'm going to throw my own breakfast meeting. I'm officially announcing Breakfast with Kim! My breakfast meeting will be held on Saturday, September 10 at 9:00 AM at Panera's NE. You've heard it here first. Tell a friend and join me for coffee. I'm depending on my blog readers to get the word out.

Sunday Snapshots

Our Beloved Bernice

I think I've met my match. I, more than anyone, am committed to creating space for one more person. But I just don't seem to understand Bernice! She's aloof, hardheaded and difficult to communicate with. I'm sure every church has someone like her. Today she was helping staff the Missions Bake Sale table. I appreciate her heart for missions, but I question her people skills.

It's exciting to be part of a church where God is at work. Here are some snapshots from today:

• The Griffith's were with us and Rick preached.
• Adele Booysen was commissioned. You can read more about Adele and her ministry on her blog.
• Tammany Block was in the lobby to share about her upcoming ministry with the Logos II and Operation Mobilization.
• The Day Campers sang two songs that they learned at camp. They were awesome!
  Pastor Tye taught the lesson in Children's Church. He showed up with his bike, wearing his cycling gear!
• Judy, Morgan and Mackenzie Male drove in from Ohio around noon to join Tye, Andrew and Allyson.
• There was a Reception for Adele and the Griffith's this evening. It was a wonderful time of interaction.
